April Lockhart

April Lockhart, born in 1995 on July 4th July, started taking lessons on piano and guitar at age seven. The passion for creating songs was sparked. April's very first song was called Different which she composed at the age of 12. In her 14th year April was a big devotee of her time writing and practicing songs. After a while, she began to travel with her dad and to write songs in NY and LA. April started to include other subjects in Take My Hand for those of her peers who struggled in the face of peer pressure, disability or even suicidal thoughts. Lockhart has her own following and also works as a lifestyle blogger at the well-known Ilia the Clean Beauty brand. She was born without her left hand, and it's an aspect of her identity, but it's hardly her whole story. Lockhart's Twitter profile does not conceal her status as disabled however, it doesn't make a point of it. What message does it convey? The message is that we are more than just our physical self. Our identities are complicated and we contain many different dimensions. Lockhart says in a video interview with Lockhart via video "I am not convinced that my physical appearance should define my character. My goal is not to be an influencer on disabilities because I've got many more things to contribute." But it does not affect my daily life. I do the things I normally would and I've adapted to my disabilities. But, I consider that it is a crucial component of my life. Lockhart who is an motivation for self-acceptance generally, is on a long journey to achieve it. She admits that she's been through periods of being uncomfortable with her body and sometimes being unsure about wearing particular types of clothes showing off her arms. Nowadays, she can wear whatever she likes. She also posts her pictures to social networks. The key to self-love for her is that it's not a goal. It's true for all regardless of levels of anxiety. The people you surround yourself with, who know you and see through your eyes are the ones you should be relying on who can remind you of the things you're worrying about.
